Although they are technically classed as temporary, many businesses opt to use temporary warehouses as an alternative to a permanent solution. They may be different to brick buildings in terms of their flexibility, but they are durable and strong, and can be an ideal solution for businesses who are not ready to invest in a new warehouse or new premises.
Lifespan of Temporary Warehouses
Temporary warehouses are usually designed to have a lifespan of between ten and fifteen years, although some businesses use them for much longer than this. When looking for a warehouse supplier, you should ensure that their warehouses are built to BS 6399 specifications. This is the British Standard for structural safety, and means the warehouse will be structurally safe, even in bad weather conditions.
Repair and Maintenance
If you are hiring a temporary warehouse, you should have some information in your contract pertaining to the type of repairs and maintenance the hire company provides. The frame and cladding of the warehouse should stand the test of time, however certain elements of the warehouse, such as the doors and roof, may need to be repaired. This can usually be completed in sections, helping to ensure that the modifications are economical and quick.
Hire or Buy?
Although most businesses start out by leasing a temporary warehouse, if you want to use one long term it may be more cost effective to buy one outright. Alternatively, speak to the hire company and ask for information relating to long term deals.
